District 18 Caucus Call for Nominations

Dear District 18 Caucus Members,

Consider nominating yourself or others for the open positions on the 10-member Caucus Governing Board. This year, the caucus will be electing all four officer positions, Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, & Treasurer, which have one-year terms, and two Board Member positions, which have two-year terms.

Below are the descriptions of the offices to be filled. Please consider nominating yourself or another caucus member for a position!

Section 9(a) of the Bylaws provides that a Caucus member in good standing may nominate him/herself or may nominate another eligible member for an officer position or for membership on the Caucus Board, as long as that member has agreed to be willing to serve.  In making nominations, please consider the objective of the Caucus, as specified in Section 1 of the Bylaws, to strive to represent the diverse character of the Caucus's Democratic constituency.  

Please submit your nomination by completing the form attached --or you can download it from the caucus's website -- and return it no later than April 18, 2009, to Carole Brand,  Nominating Committee Chair, at 7011 Fulton Street, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.  The Elections Meeting will be held on May 17, 2009.  Please note that in order to be eligible to vote at the Elections Meeting, Caucus Members must have paid their dues in the amount of $10 on or before May 17, 2009. (See list of paid members below.)

The current chair of the caucus, Dee Schofield, automatically remains on the board as immediate Past Chair.

Duties of elected members of the Caucus:

The Chairperson will preside over all meetings of the Board and the Membership.
The Chairperson may establish committees and designate its chairpersons and appoint committee members as may be necessary to carry out the objectives of the organization.

The Vice Chairperson will carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Chairperson in his/her absence and may perform other duties as assigned by the Chairperson.

The Secretary will keep membership and other records of the Caucus and is responsible for keeping minutes of each Board and Caucus Membership meeting and for notifying Board members and the general membership of upcoming meeting by mail, e-mail, telephone or other practical means.  In April of each year, the Secretary will send a notice advising every member of the May election meeting and requesting payment of the annual dues.
The Secretary is responsible for disseminating correspondence of the Caucus, its committees, and such affiliated activities that are required by these By-Laws or otherwise authorized by the Chairperson or the Board.

The Treasurer will collect dues and contributions of the Caucus and deposit such funds in the Caucus' bank account or in an account maintained by the Democratic Central Committee for the Caucus.  The Treasurer will disburse funds that are necessary for the operation of the Caucus and make expenditures for such other purposes that may be designated by the Chairman or the Board.  At each Caucus meeting, the Treasurer will provide to the Secretary a list of the members who have paid dues for the current year.  At the first general membership meeting of each calendar year, the outgoing Treasurer will provide the membership with the financial report of the Caucus.

At the next election meeting the Secretary and Treasurer will deliver to their respective successors all the records for which they have been responsible.

Board Members:

The Board, in cooperation with the Chairperson, shall establish the agenda and dates for Board and Caucus membership meetings, and the Chairperson shall direct the Secretary to notify members of the dates, times, and places of such meetings. The Board shall have other duties and authority as are granted under the By-Laws or as may be assigned by the Chairperson.

Caucus members who have paid their $10 Caucus Dues,  as of 3/30/09, are listed below.  If you haven't yet paid your dues, you may send a check for $10, payable to the District 18 Caucus, to John Cunningham, 2445 Lyttonsville Rd #616, Silver Spring, MD  20910.
